I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY

Years ago, Hank Williams, Sr. wrote one of the saddest country songs ever, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Believe me, there are a lot of tearjerkers in that musical genre--your girl runs off with your best friend, you lose your job, your car breaks down, and your dog dies.

That was kind of how I felt last evening. We had a meeting to determine the level of interest for Labor Day Outreach. What was determined is there is relatively little interest--certainly not enough to pull it off. Sadly, we will have to cancel this.

I do realize not everyone could attend. Schedules are crazy. I did hope several would come. Other than a few pastors verbally committing to help, one phone call, and zero emails, the response has been underwhelming. The parking lot and the pews were empty. If we kept beating the drum, twisted a few arms, and such, we might get enough help, but I don't just want some bodies. I want some hearts.

So, the Lord was here, and He and I spent some time in conversation at the altar. I don't want to seem like a whiner. I am not looking to make you feel guilty. I just want you to know that I still see value in an association of churches working together to advance the Kingdom. Do you?

Your Mission Strategist,

Dennis Thurman
